For the active there is a range of activities, Lacanau is The Gironde Surfing Centre with an ASP contest being held here since 1979. Nearby is an International Golf Course located in the beautiful forest, some holes with a sea view! Riding centres offer beach or forest treks, public Tennis and Squash courts, the Lacanau Lake boasts water sports and boating facilities.
Why not enjoy a relaxing day on the beach followed by a sunset dinner at Villa Margalex with glorious uninterrupted sea views. Many restaurants offer traditional and regional cuisine, the proximity to the ocean and lake means seafood is in abundance.
If you fancy days out ~ there is a weekly market on Wednesdays with local produce or visit the Chateaux of the Medoc wine region. The historic city of Bordeaux bursting with culture is only 40 minutes away with an excellent tram service. Bassin D’Arcachon a tidal lake which is a haven for birds. The Bassin is Europes number 1 oyster producing region so there is no shortage of restaurants offering a delicious menu with stunning views! At Cap-Ferret right on the tip of the peninsula you can climb the lighthouse steps, or at Arcachon,walk to the top of the Pilat Dune, a national heritage site which at 105 metres high you can appreciate the sweeping view of the Lake, the vast Pine Forests and the Atlantic Ocean.
